Filler Q & A

Filler Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers offer an instant non-surgical solution to lines, wrinkles, folds, scars and reshaping the face

Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra and Belotero are the fillers used at Heights Dermatology and Aesthetics.

As we age, we lose volume in our skin and fine lines and wrinkles become more prominent.

This is due the loss of collagen, a vital structural component of our skin. Dermal filler injections or volume treatments aim to bring volume to your facial features with a smoother, more youthful appearance.

The main type of dermal fillers in the market, are a soft gel consisting of stabilized, non-animal hyaluronic acid. The gel is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body. It is long-lasting but not permanent.

What is hyaluronic acid?

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that helps to hydrate and add volume to our skin. Natural hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body in one or two days so it is constantly replaced. As we age this replacement mechanism diminishes so the moisturizing and plumping effects of hyaluronic acid decrease.

Will Fillers work on hands?

Yes, Dr. Billano has completed advanced training using fillers to rejuvenate hands. Your hands will look years younger with filler when used in conjunction with laser treatment and the daily use of sunscreen.

What will the procedure feel like?

Generally, pain relief is not necessary when injecting filler into the skin to correct lines and wrinkles. Some people may experience mild discomfort. A local anesthetic cream can be applied to the area for a more comfortable treatment experience.

The lips are a highly sensitive part of the body and, therefore, anesthesia is usually recommended before lip enhancement. This is achieved most effectively by using a local anesthetic.

Dermal fillers are also available with the local anesthetic 0.3% lidocaine included for a more comfortable experience.

Will I notice the difference right away?

Yes, the aesthetic results are immediate. You'll see the results as soon as your appointment is over-and no one else needs to know!

How long will the effects of dermal fillers treatment last?

One of the great advantages of dermal fillers is that the effects are long lasting but not permanent. Generally, fillers last six months to two years depending on the filler.

Is there anything I need to know before I have the treatment?

We advise you to avoid using aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs a couple of days before your treatment (unless they are taken for chronic medical conditions). Avoiding these medications will reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the point of injection.

What do dermal filler treatments involve?

The dermal filler is injected into the skin in small amounts using a very fine needle. The gel provides natural volume to smooth away the appearance of lines and wrinkles, enhance facial shape, or create fuller lips.

How long is an appointment?

The treatment typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. You'll also need to allow time for your consultation.

Are there any side effects from fillers?

Treatments with dermal fillers do not affect facial expression and the benefits can be seen instantly.

After a treatment, possible reactions are: injection site redness, swelling, itching, bruising, pain, tenderness, lumps.bumps, firmness, and discoloration.

Most side effects are mild to moderate and have lasted 14 days of less.
